TRIP ITINERARY
Our routes have been carefully chosen to include the best night stops and highlights. However, as local and operational conditions may vary and unforeseen circumstances can arise, the following itinerary should be used as a guideline.
Days: 1 Arrive Santiago
Arrive into Santiago and transfer (not included) to our gateway hotel at your leisure. Rest of day to relax and prepare for your adventure.
Meals: Paid locally | Accommodation: Hotel included
Days: 2 Santiago Night Train
Morning collection from the hotel in Santiago. We will stop at a local winery to sample and buy some of Chiles' famous wines. We will tour Santiago and then drive north and explore the nearby coastal cities of Valparaiso and Vina del Mar before returning to Santiago for an overnight train ride to Temuco.
Meals: Paid locally | Accommodation: Overnight train included
Days: 3 & 4 Pucon
With an early pickup from the station, we continue south driving through increasingly green and fertile valleys with native timbers starting to appear with the ever present towering Andes above us. A good day for trekking, white water rafting or horse riding. The next day we suggest the optional Villarica Volcano climb for an exhilarating hike to the summit that offers breath-taking views of snow-covered volcanoes, lakes and ancient forests. Later on, soak in the local hot springs and enjoy a relaxing evening.
Meals: Included | Accommodation: Camping included
Days: 5 Ensenada
Drive south through the stunningly beautiful northern lake district to Ensenada keeping an eye on the nearby Lago Llanquihue. Afternoon visit to Petrohue Falls.
Meals: Included | Accommodation: Camping included
Days: 6-8 Bariloche
Continuing south into the Nahuel Huapi National Park, we arrive to the outdoor lover's paradise, Bariloche. An epicenter for hiking, biking, fishing and white water rafting enthusiasts, there is plenty to do. Choose to hike and explore with the group or various optional activities.
Meals: Paid locally | Accommodation: Lodge included
Days: 9 & 10 Los Alerces National Park
Named for the massive trees that stand some 60 meters high and 4 meters in diameter, Los Alerces National Park formed by receding glaciers and is filled with lakes, streams and pristine forest, including the dense Valdivian temperate rainforest - perfect for trekking.
Meals: Included | Accommodation: Camping included
Days: 11 Perito Moreno
Continuing on to the southern-most section of Los Glaciares National Park, we will spend the afternoon walking along the face of the massive Perito Moreno Glacier. This huge expanse of ice spills down from the southern Patagonian ice cap like a frozen waterfall, and we will get close enough to hear its constant creaking and cracking as chunks of ice break and fall into Lago Argentino below. Take a boat ride up to the face or don crampons and walk on the glacier itself.
Meals: Paid locally | Accommodation: Lodge included
Days: 12-14 Chalten / Fitz Roy
We continue across the Andes and visit the Canyon of the Rio Pinturas and the Cueva de las Manos - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a short trek, we continue our drive south to the foot of Mt. Fitz Roy. Wonderful trekking opportunities abound in this mountainous region. There is a variety of treks that range for all levels of ability, from 2-8+ hours. Our favorite trek is: Laguna de los Tres. The following day in Chalten, we suggest going to Mt. Torre or possibly to the Torre Glacier.
Meals: Paid locally | Accommodation: Mountain Hostel
Days: 15 & 16 Calafate
Driving further south we get up close to the face of the famous and massive Perito Moreno Glacier - one of the world's few advancing ice fields. Enjoy the next day at your pace and choose to explore local glaciers, ride horses or take a cruise on Lake Argentina.
Meals: Paid locally | Accomodation: Hostel included
Days: 17-19 Torres del Paine National Park
Back into Chile we will explore another UNESCO World Heritage Site and national park, Torres del Paine. A wonderland for the outdoor enthusiast; we will spend three days here exploring the park and camping alongside shimmering lakes with thundering glaciers calving into them.
Meals: Included | Accommodation: Mountain Dome
Days: 20 Punta Arenas
Departing Torres del Paine, we drive south to our final destination, Punta Arenas, arriving late in the afternoon, with the possible visit to a penguin rookery.
Tour ends at 18:00 hrs in Punta Arenas on day 20.
