Retrace the steps of the Mayans in this mystical land of tropical forests, hidden beaches and ancient ruins.

From atop ancient pyramids set deep in their steamy jungle lair to the depths of the warm Caribbean Sea - we explore and discover the rhythm of life as we travel through the vibrant lands of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Belize.

Travel back in time as we visit the renowned Mayan site of Chichen Itza and overnight in the genteel grandeur of colonial Merida before arriving at Palenque. Here we will have time to rest and discover for ourselves ruins hidden in their jungle covering as we get our first taste of the rainforest.

The serpentine road winds upwards through tropical flora and past the beautiful Agua Azul cascades to the city of San Cristobal, set in a pine valley at 2000 meters. So long cut off from the outside world, this colonial but distinctly indigenous town bustles with an infectious vitality. The traditional costumes and ancient dialects of the local Maya collide in a mosaic of colour and sound.

Through the highlands and into Guatemala, no words spoken or pictures seen can prepare you for the dramatic beauty of your first view of Lake Atitlan, set deep in its own caldera and surrounded by three enormous active volcanoes. Chichcastenango’s market floods the senses, as displays of arts & crafts, fabrics & clothing, fruits & vegetables and everyday goods all beg to be bought.

Majestic Antigua, though shaken by earthquakes and surrounded by smoking volcanoes, remains distinguished and regal. Honduras’ Copan is the forgotten crown jewel of Mayan cities and astonishes visitors with its exquisitely carved stelae, alters and temples.

We return to the dense rainforest of El Peten arriving at the legendary Finca Ixobel - a working farm which has been welcoming travellers for decades. Here we take time to participate in the fun filled activities and enjoy delicious home-made meals. Beneath a jungle canopy teaming with troops of howler monkeys, flocks of raucous parrots and gracious toucans lie the fabled ruins of Tikal. Slender pyramids topped with temples reach to the sky and majestic monuments line the plazas.

We travel east into Belize and on to the island paradise of Caye Caulker, with an opportunity to swim with playful stingrays and sharks as we dive through coral gardens and beautiful azul seas.

Finally, we return to Mexico and head for the vibrant Caribbean beach city of Playa del Carmen. There is still time for excitement and fun as well as lazy hours on heavenly beaches, before we enjoy a final meal together, while sharing memories that will last a lifetime.
