Train ride from Machu Picchu to Cuzco
Spend a week following in the footsteps of the ancient
Inca to the magnificent ruins of Machu Picchu
Travel from Lima into the
heart of the Andes to participate in one of the most
coveted journeys on Earth - the Inca Trail to Machu
Picchu! This eight day tour provides all the essential
arrangements for a successful venture from Lima to
Cusco and Machu Picchu in the shadow of these mighty
mountains.
We begin our journey early in the
morning on day two with a flight from Lima to Cusco,
the gateway to these legendary ruins. Allowing time
to acclimate to the high altitude (3,360 metres),
you may wander the narrow, cobblestone streets of
this dynamic and astonishing former capital city of
one of the greatest pre-Columbian societies. Cusco
and the surrounding area is full of museums, markets,
artisans, shrines and entertainments of old and new.
The morning of the hike we travel
through the Sacred Valley to reach our starting point
and to prepare for our great journey on this mythical
trail. Hike over three different passes on this four
day excursion; visit aqueducts, hand-carved tunnels,
and distracting remnants of the Inca civilisation
- not to mention unforgettable vistas.
Climb up
the steps to Intipunku (the Sun Gate) in the latter
afternoon of the final hiking day before pausing to
behold this ancient treasure. Spend
that night at the base of the ruins and enjoy a refreshing
hot spring. Your dreams that night will be no doubt
the anticipation of a magical sunrise over the ruins
of Machu Picchu. Watch the light fill the dawn as
you try to make out the shapes of this city in the
clouds.
Enjoy a guided tour of the
ruins to fully experience this fabled setting before
returning to Cusco on a leisurely train, savouring
the sublime sights of the past few days in the heart
of the Inca world.
Note: Inca Trail permits
are issued on a first come, first served basis. We
strongly recommend booking at least 6 months in advance

LOCAL
PAYMENT
Due to a limited supply of Inca Trail
allocations, the governing authorityof
the trail may decide to raise the permit
fee - which helps maintain the trail.
We have therefore decided to make this,
and the Machu Picchu Sanctuary fee,
local payments. Please note, these two
fees combined amount to approximately
US$85, but may increase without notice.
Inca Trail permits are issued on a
first come, first served basis. We strongly
recommend booking at least 6 months
in advance to ensure availability.
OPTIONAL
ACTIVITIES
