Steamy rainforest, mountains
and both Caribbean and Pacific coasts make Costa Rica
the perfect place to explore tropical nature.
After a quick tour of San
Jose we will visit
the National Museum and stop at the INBio Park. This
is a wonderful educational and recreational centre
where the numerous interactive exhibits and interpretative
trails will provide your family with a fascinating
introduction to Costa Rica.
The next morning we make our way
to the coastal Caribbean lowlands. We will take a
scenic boat trip along the narrow waterways of Tortuguero
National Park that will lead us to a hidden riverbank
lodge in the rainforest. Here we can spot toucan and
many other brightly coloured birds in the trees and
perhaps crocodile in the water as we explore the unique
system of natural and man-made canals.
Travelling back down the river we
will continue the journey through banana plantations,
palm trees and papayas growing along the roadside
until we reach Sarapiqui. Nestled on the banks of
the Puerto Viejo River and the nearby Braulio Carrillo
National Park, Sarapiqui is one of the best areas
for bird watching.
Upon arrival, there will be time
to relax, as well as the option to enjoy a rafting
trip or horse riding in the forest for some exhilarating
fun. There is also the opportunity to visit the Rainforest
Alliance Banana Project, where we can tour the eco-friendly
project and learn about local environmental issues.
Next we will visit Arenal Volcano.
Home to some wonderful natural hot springs, waterfalls
and the impressively active Arenal Volcano, we will
also explore the nearby forest trails and watch for
a variety of birdlife in the shadow of the volcano.
On a clear night, you can bathe in the thermal springs
and safely watch the volcano spluttering lava into
the night air like an extraordinary fireworks display.
Continuing
on to Monteverde, we will explore the national parks
trails - both above the trees and below! The included
Sky Walk takes us across hanging bridges high above
the forest for a birds eye view. For those more
daring, choose to zipwire through the trees!
Finally, theres time
to relax on golden Pacific Ocean beaches in Manuel
Antonio National Park where capuchin monkeys play
in the overhanging palm trees.
