You will need a valid passport,
together with visas where necessary for the United
States, Canada, Mexico & Central America. It is
important that you apply for visas while in your home
country.
All Footloose passengers make their
own way to our gateway hotels in North America. You
will find detailed instructions on how to get to our
hotels in the Trek
Tips section.
Rooms at our gateway hotels are based on twin share
as most single travellers prefer to stay with other
Footloose passengers at an affordable price - it's
a great opportunity to make friends with your fellow
passengers.
Reservations at our gateway hotels can be requested
along with your tour booking. We are able to offer
an unlimited number of nights at our Los Angeles hotel.
For all other hotels, we can offer our special twin
share rates for a maximum of two nights before and
two nights after the tour ( except San Francisco which
is limited to one night before and one night after
the tour). Please note that hotel reservation changes
must be made no later than one month before the departure
date of your tour. Sorry but we cannot make refunds
for cancelled accommodation vouchers.
Our routes have been carefully chosen
to include the best night stops and highlights. However,
because operational conditions may vary and unforeseen
circumstances can arise, we reserve the right to make
itinerary changes when necessary.
Footloose tours begin and end at
our gateway hotels. You will normally depart at approximately
7.30 am (check your tour voucher for exact details).
On the final day your tour will normally arrive at
the hotel at about 5.00 pm (1700 hours). However some
tours vary from these times - please check the specific
itinerary. If you require hotel accommodation this
night, you MUST buy an accommodation voucher in advance.
It is essential
that you purchase only U.S. dollar travellers cheques
(Canadian dollar travellers cheques for tours in Canada)
as foreign money exchange facilities, especially in
Mexico & Central America, are very limited. Credit
cards are not accepted for most optional activities
and en route hotels.
We recommend you budget at least
US$25 per person per day to cover all optional activity
and personal spending costs in addition to the food
kitty and restaurant meals.
For all our camping tours Footloose supplies all
the camping equipment you will need EXCEPT a sleeping
bag. If required, a good quality sleeping bag can
be purchased from your Trek Leader. Regular standard
bags are $40 with warmer bags for early and late season
trips available for $80. This service is only available
at our departures from New York, Los Angeles, and
Seattle.
On our lodging tours a sleeping bag is not required
as all bedding is provided.
All
luggage is carried on the roofrack, so please don't
bring more than one medium sized suitcase or rucksack
(maximum 20kg) and your sleeping bag. Your suitcase/rucksack
may get some rough handling, so make sure it's a tough
one. Small hand baggage for day use may be carried inside
the vehicle.
Climates can vary dramatically with the regions and
altitudes we pass through, but temperatures will generally
be hot during June, July, August and early September
and warm at other times. For EARLY and LATE season
Treks, especially in Canada, Alaska and the Northwest,
we strongly recommend that you bring a warmer sleeping
bag and jacket, as temperatures fall at night . While
you will mainly wear casual, light clothing on your
tour, you will certainly need a warm sweater, and
something smarter for evening wear when we are closer
to the big city night-life. Hikers and walkers need
to bring adequate footwear. If you would like more
information on average temperatures in North America,
please visit our Links
page.
It may be necessary from time to
time to substitute another vehicle for the one described
on this website or to change the number of persons
carried in any vehicle.
Illness or dental trouble can spoil your holiday,
so it's always wise to have a thorough check-up before
you leave home. You should also consult your doctor
concerning which inoculations are advisable and necessary
for specific areas.
